A History of Our Future
Here is a brief over view of our past and the reasons for a new Imaginarium on the UK mainland. It includes some details of where we are now, the problems we are facing, our solution for these problems and information on current timelines and funding goals.
A little journey through our past . . . .
And a little into our future . . . .
The birth of an Imaginarium.
We started with 8 workstations, a creative offering of 8-10 items, and a 'buffet' which took up about the space of a dining room table! We also started with the distinct feeling that it could be a huge disaster.
Our first realm is born . . . .
At the end of our first year we realised we had something, something very different and potentially very big. We had created what has become to be known as the first of our realms, (you can read more about our realms here).
The peak of an Imaginarium
We started the Easter break with 36 workstaions and a creative offering of hundreds of items and a buffet that is 36' long with thousands of items.
The Coming Storm
From early in 2025 and particularly over the course of the summer we realised we had a problem - one we could not fix or avoid. Comments from visitors regarding extortionate ferry costs, other comments on over priced island attractions and accommodation. The island's car parks 'fine happy' attitude only puts another nail in the coffin of the island.
The Hard Facts
In the latter months of 2025 and the first months of 2026 we came to the hard conclusion that the Isle of Wight is dying as a tourist attraction and as a place where you would raise a young family. Anyone considering starting up or expanding a business like ours is taking on a very risky thing indeed.
The Way forward
Across these two months, after many meetings and much soul-searching, we concluded that The Imaginarium would need to close and something new would have to take its place . . . .
Testing times
The summer proved to be as poor as we had feared, another drop in visitor numbers, and tales from visitors of £350+ crossings. People who have been island regulars for 10+years saying never again. On the upside, we used the summer months to plan and organise and try out our new Imaginarium creative kits; of the 50 kits we created, nearly everyone sold out in the first 2 weeks!
The New Imaginarium
We will be seeking investor funding to open a new Imaginarium on the UK mainland - - free of the problems the island is causing, allowing it to grow and thrive; and we will be launching a Kickstarter Campaign to take our already successful creative kits on-line as well as allowing us to create even more. For those seeking to help us with the future our pitch deck and business plan will be available soon, by request.
The future of The Imaginarium . . . .
We have a concept for 12+ new realms and creative spaces covering every creative pursuit you can think of and probably some you haven't! We will be looking for investors/backers to make these a reality.
Our visitors creativity knows no bounds
Here are just some of the amazing creations by young and not so young visitors.
Some of our realms to come....
These three realms are just teasers; we have more than 12+ new realms that we would like to create, given the time, space and financial backing. If you are interested in finding out more visit our Creating new realms page.
